Renewing Cricut Cutting Mats

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Just had to share this with you all. Cathy Dore' had some great information she share on her blog. For all of you that have a cricut listen up. Don't throw away your old cutting mats. Cathy writes....

Thursday, February 19, 2009Renewing Cricut Cutting MatsI discovered a little trick on my own a couple of nights ago. I have really been using my Cricut ALOT, and of course it's just not as sticky as when I first got it. I ran it under cold water (afraid that hot water would melt the adhesive away) and used a soft toothbrush to pass on top of the sticky film to remove all the paper fibers. You see, it's the remnants of those little paper fibers that get left behind when you remove the paper from the mat that leaves the mat less sticky. After I finished brushing over the mat while under the cold water, I put the mat on a coat hanger (the little hole in the mat fits perfectly over the top of the coat hanger). I hung it to dry, and it was like new again. I've heard of others reapplying an adhesive, but I didn't find a need for it. Once all those little paper fibers were washed away, it was like new again. I hope this helps renew the life of your cutting mats!

Granddaughters make cards

Leah and Chelsea love to craft with Mamaw. I have to say that Mamaw loves it too.The girls made their dads, fathers day cards last year.I think they try it all. Oh and they love the cricket. Along with their imagination and help of the cricket they did a super job.It is wonderful to hear the conversation as they work. Oh and they know all the scrapbook terms. LOL They chalked ,inked, cut, glued, matted and giggled. They discovered glue dots and foam glue squares. Times like these will be cherished forever.

Valentine Boxes

At last a new up date. I've been busy making birthday and valentine cards. The last couple day's I've been busy making candy boxes for our Feb. chick meeting. Thanks to paperpiecingpatty for giving me the directions. I made three different sizes. Three were made with 6x6 card stock. (made for our little biddies that sometimes make a crop) All of the chicks well be receiving the ones that I made from 9x9 card stock. I made one from 12 x 12 card stock for a door prize. Directions: Cut card stock 9" X 9". Fold and score at 3" and again at 6". It should look like three equal columns.Turn paper fold and score again at 3"and again at 6". Now you should have 9 equal squares. Fold each corner in half from point to point. While you have the corner folded in half go ahead and punch a hole just below point, for lacing you ribbon. Fold all four corner toward the center. Lace your ribbon through and tie. You now have a box. Embellish the four side. I used stamps, stickers, brads, printed paper& inked the edges etc. Anythings goes! Have fun ! SUGAH
